While he was sitting at table in the house, many tax collectors and sinners came and sat at table with Jesus and his disciples. Seeing this, the Pharisees said to his disciples: "How come your teacher eats together with tax collectors and sinners?". Hearing this, he said: «It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. Go and learn what it means: “I want mercy and not sacrifices”. In fact, I did not come to call the righteous, but sinners."

XXV of ordinary time
Gospel (Mk 9,30-37) - At that time, Jesus and his disciples were passing through Galilee, but he did not want anyone to know. In fact, he taught his disciples and said to them: «The Son of man is delivered into the hands of men and they will kill him; but once killed, after three days he will rise again." However, they did not understand these words and were afraid to question him. They arrived in Capernaum. When he was in the house, he asked them: "What were you arguing about in the street?". And they were silent. In fact, on the street they had argued among themselves who was bigger. Sitting down, he called the Twelve and said to them: "If anyone wants to be first, he must be last of all and servant of all." And taking a child, he placed him among them and, embracing him, said to them: «Whoever welcomes one of these children in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me does not welcome me, but the one who sent me."

The light on the chandelier
Gospel (Lk 8,16-18) - At that time, Jesus said to the crowd: «No one lights a lamp and covers it with a vase or puts it under a bed, but places it on a lampstand, so that whoever enters can see the light. There is nothing secret that is not manifested, nothing hidden that is not known and comes into full light. So be careful how you listen; because to him who has, it will be given, but to him who does not have, even what he thinks he has will be taken away."

Whatever house you enter, stay there, and then leave from there. As for those who do not welcome you, leave their city and shake the dust from your feet as a testimony against them." Then they went out and went from village to village, everywhere announcing the good news and performing healings.

You are the Christ of God
Gospel (Lk 9,18-22) - One day Jesus was in a lonely place praying. The disciples were with him and he asked them this question: "Who do the crowds say that I am?" They replied: «John the Baptist; others say Elijah; others one of the ancient prophets who has risen." Then he asked them: "But who do you say that I am?". Peter replied: "The Christ of God." He strictly ordered them not to tell anyone about it. «The Son of man – he said – must suffer greatly, be rejected by the elders, the chief priests and the scribes, be killed and be resurrected on the third day».

XXVI of ordinary time
Gospel (Mk 9,38-43.45.47-48) - At that time, John said to Jesus: "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name and we wanted to stop him, because he did not follow us." But Jesus said: «Do not prevent him, because there is no one who works a miracle in my name and can immediately speak evil of me: whoever is not against us is for us. For whoever gives you a glass of water to drink in my name because you belong to Christ, truly I say to you, will not lose his reward. Whoever scandalizes even one of these little ones who believe in me, it is much better for him that a millstone be hung around his neck and he be thrown into the sea. If your hand causes you to scandal, cut it off: it is better for you to enter life with one hand, rather than with two hands to go into Geènna, into the unquenchable fire. And if your foot causes you to stumble, cut it off: it is better for you to enter life with one foot, rather than being thrown into Gehenna with both feet. And if your eye causes…

Who is the greatest?
Gospel (Lk 9,46-50) - At that time, a discussion arose among the disciples as to which of them was greater. Then Jesus, knowing the thoughts of their hearts, took a child, placed him near him and said to them: «Whoever welcomes this child in my name welcomes me; and whoever welcomes me welcomes the one who sent me. For he who is the least among you all is great." John spoke up, saying: "Master, we saw someone casting out demons in your name and we prevented him, because he does not follow you with us." But Jesus answered him: "Do not prevent him, because whoever is not against you is for you."
