Gospel (Mt 28,16-20) - At that time, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain that Jesus had indicated to them. When they saw him, they bowed down. But they doubted. Jesus approached and said to them: «All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, even to the end of the world."

The commentary on the Gospel by Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia

The time after Pentecost is the time for the Church to fulfill the mission of bringing the Gospel to all peoples. Those tongues of fire that the disciples received on the day of Pentecost did not disappear with the sunset of that day. They are the true treasure of wisdom that the Lord gave to the disciples so that they could be guided by their warmth and their brightness to gather into unity those who are dispersed and slaves of the masters of this world. Thus the apostle Paul writes to the Romans: «You have not received the spirit of slavery to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit of adoption, through whom we cry: Abba! Father!" (Rom 8:15). From Pentecost a people's Church is born which speaks clearly and with new strength the language of love for all, the language of peace among all peoples. The feast of the Trinity reminds us of the urgency of the task that the Lord entrusts to his Church. Today's celebration is a renewed invitation to insert ourselves into the very dynamism of God and to live his own life of love and compassion for the entire human family. The Lord brings about salvation - as Vatican II says - by gathering men and women around him into a large and boundless family. Salvation is called, precisely, communion with God and among men.
