Gospel (Jn 16,12-15) - At that time, Jesus said to his disciples: «I still have many things to say to you, but for the moment you are not capable of carrying the burden. When he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own, but he will speak everything that he hears, and he will declare to you the things to come. He will glorify me, because he will take from what is mine and declare it to you. All that the Father possesses is mine; this is why I said that he will take from what is mine and announce it to you."

The commentary on the Gospel by Monsignor Vincenzo Paglia

The Gospel does not require wise men or specialists, nor does Jesus look for powerful and strong people to whom he can entrust his mission. In fact, it seems to do the opposite. His word, in fact, is not a high doctrine or a complex ideology that only a few are able to understand and delve into. From his teaching flows a simple and strong energy that fills the heart and transforms life, and everyone can welcome it and live it. It is the energy of love. The disciples are only asked to let it operate, not to slow it down, not to place obstacles in its way. The Holy Spirit "will guide you to all the truth", says Jesus. And he will make us discover the limits and banalities of those views in which we often close ourselves. Let us be guided by the Spirit and we will discover future things, we will dream of a different tomorrow. The Spirit, who is a source of life and inspiration, helps us to be creators with him of that future common to all peoples and therefore to us too. In this sense there is a growth in understanding the Gospel. Father Aleksandr Men', a priest killed in Moscow in the early nineties, said that we are still only at the beginning of understanding the Gospel, we still have to understand many words in all their depth. Saint John XXIII, years earlier, shortly before his death, said: "It is not the Gospel that changes, it is we who understand it better." This is the work of the Spirit, still today and throughout the generations.
